Deceleration boxes/gear units are used to ensure the transmission between the engine and the application. As the name suggests, the gear unit slows down the input of the engine. The output speed is determined by the engine speed and the gear ratio of the gear unit. The gear ratio/deceleration of the gear unit is usually indicated by i = (e.g. i=10), which means that the gear unit decelerates the output speed of the motor by a factor of 10.
